A Charleston Engagement | Stephanie + Jason

During this weird time where we are all in our homes every day I’m tackling my #20for2020 list. This is my second year making a list of things to accomplish that make me happier.  If you are interested in this topic, here is more information: https://gretchenrubin.com/2020/01/20-for-2020-list

#20 on my list is “Catch up on old blog posts” so here’s an engagement from a few years ago:

Stephanie + Jason met in Columbus, Ohio where they are both from (and me too!) Their first date was at the Columbus Zoo to see the Christmas lights. They shopped for rings together and settled on a beautiful pear-shaped rose gold ring.  Stephanie was imagining a romantic beach proposal, but instead Jason proposed on New Years Eve surrounded by all their closest friends. Stephanie was so surprised and excited to show the ring off to everyone before coming back to South Carolina. They plan to wed this summer back in Ohio.  Congrats to the happy couple!

Erica + Logan | The Wedding Day

Followers of the blog will remember Erica and Logan.  We’ve been following their wedding journey for the past year!  There was their fun downtown engagement session.  And there was their interview with myself and Caleb White from WedTexts.  Well, they finally tied the knot in beautiful Asheville, NC at Castle Ladyhawke!

Erica told me all about the big day and even shared some photos by Ryan Baumgarner.

SGP:  Tell us about the day!
EH: The “big day” was absolutely amazing! The weather was perfect, about 73 degrees in the mountains of Asheville. As you know, it was a very small ceremony with only our parents as guests. We drove separately to the castle, Logan dressed at the resort in his dad’s room and I in the castle. We didn’t see each other until I walked down the aisle, I’m glad we did this, we were both shocked at how great the other looked. We were able to be ourselves and only focus on each other, no stress at all! We wrote our own vows, Logan blew me away with his heartfelt and genuine words. We had a early ceremony, 11:00a.m., so we were able to go back to the resort and enjoy the rest of our first day as Mr. and Mrs. followed by an amazing dinner with our parents- it was perfect.
SGP: What was the castle like?
EH: The castle was breathtaking! A bit difficult to get to, the steep hill up the mountain was a bit frightening but completely worth the trek. We were able to tour the castle, separately as we didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony. It had a stunning view, several balconies, a tower with a rustic spiral staircase and the landscaping was incredible too! Truly something out of a fairy tale.

SGP:  What was the highlight of the day?  What moment will you always remember?
EH: The highlight and one thing I’ll always remember would have to be the look on Logan’s face as he told me his vows. They literally made everyone cry, including him. He started them by saying that he had spent weeks trying to figure out what to write down, then he threw his vow book to his stepdad (I later found out this was rehearsed the night before) and said he didn’t need to write anything down and proceeded to proclaim his love like I’ve never heard before. I don’t even think I comprehended much of it, all I could think about was how lucky I am to be marrying this guy right now and tried to soak up every bit of that moment.

Jackson Hole Wedding | Andrew + Heidi

Andrew had been living in Jackson Hole for 5 years when he came home one night and exclaimed to his roommate, “I’m going on a date!  With a girl!”  Four years and numerous adventures later he asked that girl to marry him.  Then on September 16th Andrew and Heidi said their “I dos” surrounded by friends and family with the Tetons as their background.

Andrew + Heidi – This wedding was so special for me because you are like family!  Andrew, I’ve known you pretty much your entire life, and it is such a gift to have friends like you, Dana, and your parents.  I know I’m not the only one that feels this way about you two after listening to the meaningful speeches by your bridal party and family members.  From Jackson Hole friends to college roommates to friends from pre-school – you both are surrounded by so much love.  You are a perfect match, and I wish you a lifetime of happy memories and exploration!

xoxo,

Sarah

Navy-themed Session in Charleston | Brittany + Ryan

Originally we were planning a Notebook-themed session for Brittany + Ryan’s one-year anniversary photo session.  Then we decided on a classic downtown Charleston portrait session followed by some photos with Ryan in his Navy uniform.  (So handsome!)  We did sneak in some Notebook-like photos though because we started at the American Theater on Kings Street.  Brittany had so many great ideas!

Lowcountry Backyard Wedding | Erin + Eric

A boy from Kentucky and a girl from Pennsylvania began their courtship over Italian cuisine at Al Di La in Charleston after a chance online meeting.   She was immediately taken with his fluffy white cat, sense of humor, and knowledge of dinosaurs.  He fell head over heels once he learned of her love of pigeons.

After several years of cooking dates, making their own sauerkraut, and hiking adventures they were on their way to watch a Florida-Kentucky basketball game when they stopped by James Island County Park.  Eric set up a tripod to take their photo and then got down on one knee, fried egg ring in hand, and asked Erin to marry him.  She said she had “nothing else going on”, and so it began.

On a sunny spring day, they wed in a beautiful backyard ceremony of their Charleston, South Carolina home.  A reception followed at James Island County Park where they were joined by their friends and families.

Erin + Eric – Thank you for including me in your incredibly fun wedding day!   From Roofus in his matching tie to shots in your kitchen after the ceremony – it was a most unique and special time.  Wishing you a lifetime of adventures together!
